10 Steps to Conquering Your Goals
We’ve all got goals of some kind: health, mental, work, personal, family. There’s always something we wish was better or flowed more efficiently in our daily routine. But wanting to set goals and actually achieving those goals are two very different things and can sometimes seem too daunting to try.
You’ll never get anywhere without that first step towards your goals! And then, of course, taking another step. Then another and another. Consistency is key, so be sure you’re in the right headspace to start aiming for your goals.Â
Here are 10 steps that’ll help you conquer your goals, whatever they may be!
1) FOCUS & DECIDE
Instead of choosing several goals to work on simultaneously, harness all that energy and focus it toward just 1 to 2 main goals. This is where consistency comes into play – you don’t want to burn yourself out by trying to achieve too many goals at once. Start small and work your way up!
2) PICK THE GOAL WITH YOUR BIGGEST WHY
This is the goal that you emotionally connect with and have a STRONG REASON for choosing. For example, your why could be: “I want to have the energy to play with my kids.†That’s a pretty big reason with a specific goal in mind, which will keep you focused on the end result! It’s your “WHY†that keeps you going, so it has to be a good one!
3) COMMIT
(Yes, really.) Commit the right amount of resources (time, energy, and attention) to make your goal a reality. Treat it like anything else important in your life. In fact, one of the best ways to stay consistent with your goals is to implement them into your daily routine. So, if you want to eat cleaner, consider making meal prepping part of your daily routine!
4) MAKE A PLAN
Every Saturday or Sunday, set aside 15-30 minutes to plan out your week and ensure you have what you need on hand and ready to go. Again, this will help you not come up with excuses to break from your routine, keeping you focused and on track!
Every night, take 3-5 minutes to make sure you’re prepared for the next day. This makes a HUGE difference! And if it helps, try writing down your plan, maybe in a cool journal!Â
5) TAKE ACTION
This is actually the MOST IMPORTANT STEP of all. You won’t reach your goals without consistent action.Â
Do something daily that moves you closer to your goal. Even if it seems super small, it’s better than nothing, and that consistency will help keep you focused!
6) GET SUPPORT & ACCOUNTABILITY
Tell trusted friends and family members what you’re working toward! Or even better, join the 30-Day-Challenge where you can reach out in the group and get encouragement form other members and help from our experienced coaches! Everyone in these incredible groups will help you get (and stay) on track with our proven program.Â
With someone in your corner, when you have a “win†or a setback, you have someone to share it with and that will help spur your motivation to keep moving forward. Plus, accountability is one of the best ways to stay focused on your goals!
7) SET DEADLINES
Don’t skip this one! Without having a specific date to shoot toward, you won’t have any URGENCY to take action.
When you feel a clock ticking down toward your goals, it will light a fire of motivation. This is especially helpful if you’re trying to get healthy for a specific event, like a wedding or anniversary. But remember, we’re trying to make long-lasting, practical changes that won’t cause burnout. Be urgent, but keep your long-term goals in perspective too.Â
8) GIVE YOURSELF A REWARD
When you meet milestones along the way toward your goals, reward yourself with a healthy payoff! New shoes, workout gear, a book, or a massage are great choices.
Plus, when you put on those new leggings or take a drink from that water bottle, you’ll be reminded of how you crushed your goals, which will help keep you motivated towards your new goals.
9) MANAGE EXPECTATIONS
Making changes and going after goals can take time and effort. Be patient and stay the course! Give your plan time to work and know that some days will be easier than others.
Just keep repeating step 5 (taking action), and remember to be gentle with yourself as you navigate new life paths.
No one is perfect all the time and we shouldn’t expect ourselves to be! Allow for growth and experiences from which to learn. One set back does not make you a failure.Â
10) REEVALUATE
Do a quick evaluation of where you’re at every few weeks.
- Are you killing it and staying on track? (Woohoo!)
- Are you following the plan?
- Does something feel off?
