What is Halloumi?

Halloumi is a traditional Cypriot cheese made from sheep’s milk, goat’s milk, or a combination of both.

It’s a semi-hard, white cheese with a distinctive texture and flavor.

-High melting point: Halloumi has a unique property that makes it resistant to melting, even when grilled or pan-fried. This makes it perfect for cooking.

– Salty flavor: Halloumi has a salty, slightly tangy taste, which is balanced by its creamy texture.

– Firm texture: Halloumi is a semi-hard cheese with a firm, compact texture that’s similar to mozzarella.

How’s Halloumi made?

Halloumi is typically made by hand, using traditional methods and recipes passed down through generations.

The milk used to produce Halloumi comes from sheep and goats grazing in the Cypriot countryside.

Halloumi has been granted a protected designation of origin (PDO) by the European Union, ensuring that only cheese produced in Cyprus can bear the name “Halloumi”.

Halloumi is an integral part of Cypriot cuisine and is often served as part of a traditional meze (appetizer) platter.

Overall, Halloumi is a delicious and versatile cheese that’s perfect for cooking, snacking, or adding to your favorite recipes!
