Air Fryer Whole Chicken

This is an absolute MUST-HAVE recipe to keep in your favorite good eats arsenal especially if you’re an Air Fryer lover like me.

Everything about this chicken is complete perfection and it couldn’t be simpler! Hands-on time are super minimal, so you can go make a fun side dish or just take a break while it’s cooking!

Tender, juicy-center meat that will impress your toughest chicken critics, with that idyllic show-stopping crispy, flavorful skin! Everything you could possibly want in a piece of chicken, thanks to the air fryer!

I’ve written a lot about how our family is looking for ways to reduce (or just keep under control) our family food budget. Cooking a whole chicken (when they’re on SALE) is an excellent way to save some money over the often more expensive pre-trimmed chicken parts.

What does shopping the sales mean?

For me it means that I have a few ideas for recipes and meals I’d like to make that week BUT I’m VERY flexible.

I choose whatever veggie is on sale at the store that week (OR farmers market…or possibly ready in the garden). The same goes for protein. As I’m walking through the store, when I see something is discounted that week… well that then becomes our protein of choice.

It’s always a balance between making GOOD choices while also not overspending on items that aren’t as affordable at the time.

Serve alongside mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower, and my FAVORITE green beans:

4 servings

Ingredients:

  • A 4-5 lb whole chicken, giblets removed
  • 2 Tbsps olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 Tbsp smoked paprika
  • sea salt and ground pepper, to taste
  • fresh lemon wedges
  • chopped fresh parsley

Instructions:

Remove your chicken from the fridge 30 minutes prior to cooking.

Preheat your air fryer to 360 degrees f. for 5 minutes.

Pat the chicken dry inside and out using paper towels.

Drizzle the chicken with oil and sprinkle it with seasonings. Using your clean hands, rub it all over.

If you have extra fresh lemon wedges, place them into the cavity of the chicken. This is optional but very well worth it.

Carefully place the whole chicken, breast side up, into the basket of your air fryer.

Air fry at 360 degrees f. for 45-55 min depending on the size of your bird.

A meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chicken breast will read 165F when it’s cooked through.

Allow your chicken to rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving.

Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve with fresh lemon wedges.

Enjoy!
