➡️Choosing the Best Ingredients

Did you know that dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and flavonoids, making it a great choice for a healthier treat? Just be sure to choose a high-quality dark chocolate with a high cacao percentage for the most health benefits.

Look for a higher percentage of cacao chocolate chips or chocolate bar to melt, and always read the ingredients.

There are often lots of questions about chocolate brands – I like to visit the specialty (nicer) chocolate section at the stores and find a really high quality, (often organic) dark chocolate bar on SALE – so I’m often trying something different because the sales dictate my purchase.

🍫A high-quality dark chocolate bar works great too! I’ll often find a beautiful organic dark chocolate bar on sale, then chop it up to use for things like this.

I like to buy the highest quality I can find when it’s on SALE! I’m always keeping an eye out for a good deal and will often stock up when a high-quality product is on special.

Use any dark chocolate chips of your choice: the higher cacao percentage = more health benefits.

-> I used “Just Ingredients” protein powder in vanilla flavor for these froyo pops.

Why is the Just Ingredients Protein Powder & collagen our FAVORITE option?

The protein comes from 5 sources: 100% super high-quality grass-fed whey, pea protein, pumpkin seed, chia seeds and collagen. There is a lot less whey compared to normal protein powders so it may be easier on the stomach than other protein powders!

Free from sugar, gluten, artificial sweeteners or any artificial ingredients.

Rachel’s Tips for Best Results

  • 🍯Sweetness factor is a very personal taste preference, so you may want to use more or less pure maple syrup or raw honey, depending on YOUR family’s specific taste preferences.
  • 🥛Use ANY unsweetened/plain milk of your choice. My personal favorite for these treats is unsweetened coconut milk or cashew milk. Any unsweetened nut milk, coconut milk, or high-quality grass-fed cow’s milk all work really well here. Use what you personally like and have on hand.

Adaptations and Substitutions

The beauty of making homemade chocolate popsicles is that you can change anything you want to accommodate your preferences. Here are a few we recommend trying:

Protein Powder: We used chocolate protein powder, but you could use vanilla or even peanut butter flavored protein powder for a twist on the original recipe. Also, if you don’t want to use it at all but still want more protein, I suggest adding some Greek yogurt, blended cottage cheese, or collagen powder.

Toppings: We love to add chopped nuts to the outside of our chocolate popsicle recipe for a bit of crunch. You could also try unsweetened coconut or sea salt for a different taste and texture.

Milk: Coconut milk is what we like in these popsicles, but you can truly use any type you want, even cow’s milk. However, the more fat content in the milk, the creamer these fudgy pops are going to be.

Storage Suggestions

These fudge pops keep longer if you remove them from the mold and wrap them individually in parchment paper or foil. They will last up to 2 months in your freezer for the ultimate anytime snack!

Recipe FAQ’s

Do I have to add protein powder to these chocolate pops?

Nope! If you make them without the protein powder, they are still delicious.

Can I make these without bananas?

The ingredients in this recipe are measured out so that the bananas add much of the sweetness. If you remove them, I cannot promise these chocolate pops will taste as good. Plus, adding banana increases the amount of fiber in the pops.

What if I don’t have popsicle molds?

You can of course use any type of mold you have. Pour the mixture into 4 small bowls, then eat with a spoon, pour the entire mixture into a 9×9 baking dish, then cut into frozen squares, anything will really work, popsicle molds are just the most fun!
