Margherita Roasted Green Beans 🌱ðŸ…
Green Beans are one of my most favorite side dishes. Whether they’re in a salad, steamed, roasted – I just absolutely love em’!
Our Margherita Roasted Green Beans are pretty simple to prepare and full of delicious flavors. These Ingredients (minus the green beans – ha!) can be found on a traditional Margherita pizza, made with San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, salt, and extra-virgin olive oil – but we’re baking them into our green beans instead and borrowing all of those flavors.
These green beans are excellent for meal prep and reheat very well.
🅠Be sure to use YOUR favorite marinara sauce or good quality crushed tomatoes, because that’s where this dish gets a lot of its flavor!
When shopping for store-bought sauce:
I like to make sure the marinara has no added sugar (tomatoes naturally contain sugar, but there shouldn’t be sugar on the ingredients list.)
The marinara sauce should contain just a few simple ingredients such as tomatoes, garlic, and herbs.
Or make your own!
âž¡ï¸ Try this with Rachel’s Homemade Marinara Sauce.
6 servings
Ingredients:
- -1/2 lbs green beans, ends trimmed
- 2 cups marinara sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 2-3 fresh garlic cloves, minced
- sea salt and ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Optional Topping:
- chopped fresh basil leaves
Instructions:
First, Blanch your Green Beans:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and prepare a large bowl with ice water next to it.
Once the water starts boiling, add in the green beans and boil for just 3-4 minutes, or until slightly softened yet still tender-crisp.
Using tongs or a large slotted spoon, quickly transfer your blanched green beans into the ice water. Allow them to bathe in the ice water for a minute or two, then drain very well and set aside.
Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 425 degrees f. Lightly spray or brush an oven-safe dish with cooking oil.
In a large bowl add the blanched beans, marinara sauce, oil, garlic, a pinch of sea salt and pepper. Toss very well to coat all the green beans.
Transfer your green beans to the prepared dish using a rubber spatula to get all of the sauce.
Roast for 15 minutes, or until the beans are tender and the sauce is bubbly.
Remove from the oven and top with your mozzarella cheese.
Return to the oven and broil for about 4 minutes, or until the cheese is melty and golden browned.
Sprinkle with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Enjoy immediately.
