The hot summer months call for a cool frozen treat like these easy Frozen Yogurt Bars.  Learn how to make frozen yogurt bars with a few simple ingredients in just 5 minutes of prep before freezing. They have no added sugar, use only clean ingredients, and are perfect for a healthy, protein-rich snack that is customizable and kid-friendly.  These healthy frozen yogurt treats are the perfect summertime snack!

Why you’ll love this Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars recipe

I like having a quick frozen snack for the kids in the summer (and let’s be honest, for myself!) that isn’t full of extra things like sugar, colors, and artificial flavors.  This frozen Greek yogurt bars recipe is similar to yogurt bark, but thicker, creamier, and perfect for slicing into snack-sized bars to have on a hot day.  Here are all the other reasons you’ll love them:

  • Fast Snack Prep:   These super simple frozen yogurt bars can be whipped up in just 5 minutes.  The only thing that takes any time is the freezer time, but that is all hands off, just make sure you plan ahead.
  • Customizable:  Technically, you really only need 1 ingredient, Yogurt, to make these bars, and any type will do (dairy free, Greek, regular).  The toppings are all up to you.  Add peanut butter, chopped nuts or seeds, fruit, or whatever you want on top, bottom, or in the middle!
  • Only Natural Sweeteners:  The only sweetness I use on these frosty yogurt bars is some dark chocolate and berries on top.  That natural sweetness complements the Greek yogurt perfectly.
  • Only Whole Food Ingredients:  As always, Clean Food Crush strives to only use the most simple and whole food ingredient options in our recipes.  And these frozen yogurt bars are no exception.
  • Protein Rich:  Between the chopped pecans and the Greek yogurt, these frozen yogurt bars are naturally high in protein without needing additional protein powders or additives.
  • Nutty Crunch:  The pecan layer on the bottom gives these frozen bars the perfect crunch and nutty flavor to complement the creamy yogurt on top.
  • Ultra Convenient:  Anytime you have a healthy snack at your fingertips, you are more likely to stay on track, and these frozen yogurt bars are the perfect make ahead snack.

What are Frozen Yogurt Bars?

Frozen yogurt bars are a simple no-bake frozen snack made by spreading yogurt into a pan and adding toppings like fruit, nuts, or chocolate, and then freezing.  They are essentially a yogurt bark recipe that’s frozen so it is an easy grab-and-go snack.

Best Yogurt to Use

Greek Yogurt:  Using a full fat, Greek yogurt will give you healthy fats and a creamy texture after freezing.  Plus it is naturally high in protein.

Regular Yogurt:  Regular, non-Greek yogurt can be used, however it is not quite as creamy after frozen, and could contain a lot of added sugar.

Dairy Free Yogurt:  Dairy free yogurt will work, but it will not be as creamy, giving you more of an icy texture.

How to Keep Frozen Yogurt Bars Creamy (Not Icy)

To make sure these frozen treats turn out creamy and not icy, here are a few quick tips:

  1. Use full fat yogurt
  2. Add a small amount of honey or maple syrup.
  3. Don’t over freeze them.
  4. Let them sit on the counter for 2-3 minutes before eating.

Ingredients

These are the simple ingredients that make this Frozen Yogurt Bar recipe the perfect summertime snack with extra protein.

  • 1 Cup Chopped Pecans or nuts of your choice
  • ½ Cup Fresh or Frozen Berries

See the recipe card for full information on all ingredients and instructions.

Variations/ Adaptations

Make them dairy-free:  Use coconut yogurt, coconut cream, cashew yogurt, oat yogurt, or really any yogurt you love!

Add Flavors:  If you are using plain yogurt, you could add vanilla extract, try some mint mixed in, add a bit of lemon or lime juice and zest, make a berry puree to mix with the yogurt, add your favorite nut or seed butter, or add dark chocolate chips!  The flavor ideas are endless!

Add Crunch:  In this recipe, I chose to add chopped pecans, but you could use any chopped nut you like, or even add chia seeds, or puffed quinoa for a whole different kind of crunchy snack!

Add More Sweetness:  To add a bit more sweet flavor to these yogurt bars, we recommend adding a few tablespoons of honey or maple syrup based on how sweet you like things.

Try different toppings:  I chose a simple raspberry and dark chocolate topping, but there are so many you could try.  Here are just a few I thought of:

  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Blueberries
  • Chopped peanuts
  • Granola
  • Chocolate drizzle
  • Healthy caramel sauce
  • Peaches
  • Fruit puree
  • Unsweetened Coconut flakes
  • Pistachios
  • Strawberries
  • Almonds
  • Chopped Dates
  • And so many more!

How to make Frozen Yogurt Bars

  1. Line the pan or baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. If you are adding chopped nuts to the bottom, now is the time to place them in a thin layer on the bottom of the pan or baking dish.
  3. Using a spatula, spread your yogurt over the parchment paper and chopped nuts (you may need to hold the parchment in place).
  4. Add your toppings on top of the yogurt.
  5. Place the yogurt and toppings into the freezer for about 4 hours.
  6. To easily remove your frozen yogurt bars, set the pan inside another pan with a very small amount of hot water, (do not get water on your frozen yogurt) so that it just barely thaws. Maybe 20 seconds, and they should pop right out.

Enjoy!

Rachel’s Tips for the best result

  • To avoid the yogurt leaking under the parchment paper, don’t spread the yogurt all the way to the edges of the pan.
  • For clean even bars, use a sharp knife warmed under hot water before slicing.
  • To easily remove your frozen yogurt bars, set the pan inside another pan with a very small amount of hot water, (do not get water on your frozen yogurt) so that it just barely thaws. Maybe 20 seconds, and they should pop right out.
  • If they are too solid, let them sit for 2-3 minutes before eating.
  • Add a bit of honey or maple syrup the next time if they turn out icy.
